Miners Footbal Logo Think Head First is Pleased to be Working with the Miner Youth Football Program Again for 2011!

Think Head First promotes education and awareness for concussion in sport and worked with the Park City Youth Football League last year in assistance of education for coaches, athletes and parents with regard to the importance of awareness and proper management if injury does occur. Think Head First provides the expertise required for best practices in safe return to sport. Use of neurocognitive testing offers an additional tool in appropriate management for concussive injury and establishing individual baseline cognitive levels enhances the value of the tool. Think Head First will partner with Park City Youth Football to provide availability to ImPACT baseline testing for any interested parents. This process will include a brief educational session for athletes as well as information to parents with regard to concussion.

Why Should We Baseline Test?

The Utah State Legislature has passed a law HB 204 “Protection of Athletes with head Injury”, that went into effect as of May 2011. This legislation requires all sport organizations to provide:

• An established policy/protocol for head injury
• Education to coaches, parents and athletes with regard to the policy as well as general information about concussion in sport
• Policy establishes athletes will be Removed from Sport if suspected to have any signs/symptoms of concussion
• Prohibits athlete to return to sport/play until cleared by qualified healthcare provider “trained in evaluation & management of concussion”

If your child has a baseline test on file, it is easier for a qualified healthcare professional to evaluate the severity of the injury and determine when it is safe to return to play.
